Defiance County unemployment jumps to 8.3% | Business

DEFIACNE, OH (Toledo News Now) – Defiance County’s unemployment rated increased to 8.3 percent in January, up from 6.6 percent in December of last year.

Nearly all Ohio counties saw an increase in unemployment rate in January as seasonal jobs disappeared. Rural counties seem to have been hit the hardest.

Still, unemployment in Defiance County is down half a percent since January of 2012.

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services estimates there are 17,100 employed Defiance County residents, with 1,600 still looking for work.
