Komen seeking nominations for race honorees

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) –The Northwest Ohio Susan G. Koman Foundation is currently accepting nominations for  the "In Celebration" and "In Memory" honors for the 2012 Susan G. Koman Race for the Cure. 

The "In Celebration" title honors a survivor whose courage, determination, and strength in the face of breast cancer inspires us all.  The "In Memory" title honors a woman who has been lost to breast cancer.

DC to offer Social Work Completion Program in fall semester

DEFIANCE, OH (PRESS RELEASE) – Beginning in Fall 2012, Defiance College will offer a social work completion program. The new program gives students the ability to complete a bachelor’s degree in social work in as few as four semesters.

“We’re very excited about the opportunity to offer the professional degree to students who are currently working in the social work field and may have obligations that prevent them from taking day classes,” said Professor Jeff Weaner, social work program director and Schauffler Chair in social work. “We are excited to help these new students fulfill their professional goals as social workers.”

ARCHBOLD, OH (PRESS RELEASE) – To commemorate the War of 1812 Bicentennial, a local conference will be held in Northwest Ohio to explore the impact of the War of 1812 on Native Americans in Ohio. From May 10 – 12, nationally known Native American scholars and Native leaders will convene at Defiance College, Sauder Village and Northwest State Community College for a three-day conference focusing on the tribes removed from Ohio to Kansas and Oklahoma.

Local man appears in Hollywood blockbuster

DEFIANCE, OH (Toledo News Now) – A local man got his chance to be in a Hollywood film after he applied to be an extra, but later was given a line in The Five-Year Engagement.

Kenny Small, 21, says he is excited to finally prove to his friends that he was actually in the film.

The journey began when Kenny auditioned for an acting company. They sent him to different locations for on-set shoots, and in 2011, he got the phone call to be an extra in The Five-Year Engagement.
